Delivering Sustainable Solutions for Coastal Erosion

Over a decade and a half of experience in delivering results

The Chagoury Group is committed to combating the coastal erosion that has been affecting West Africa. We successfully construct and deliver cost-effective solutions to combating coastal erosion.

In 2005, the coastal city of Victoria Island in Lagos was in imminent danger of being overwhelmed by ocean surge from the Atlantic Ocean. The coastal road, Ahmadu Bello Way, had collapsed into the ocean after the adjacent Bar Beach had been completely eroded away. Resulting substantial flooding had forced adjacent businesses and homes to be abandoned. The lives and livelihoods of residents in Victoria Island had been endangered. It was fast becoming all-to-clear that if action was not taken soon millions of square meters of developed land would be lost to the ocean. This key financial center of Lagos was under severe threat.

South Energyx Nigeria Limited, the city planners and designers of Eko Atlantic City, worked with marine engineers Royal Haskoning to create Eko Atlantic City and submitted the project to the Lagos State Government for consideration as a solution that could solve the problem of coastal erosion at no financial cost to the Government.

Since the construction of The Great Wall of Lagos in Eko Atlantic, The Chagoury Group, via Hitech Construction, has gone on to build a series of rock groyne structures for Lagos State Government to further combat existing coastal erosion East of Eko Atlantic. These rock groyne structures have effectively eliminated rampant coastal erosion in the areas where they have been installed.
